About Women's Christian College
Colonel Munro, a British resident, had his bungalow where the current chapel is situated. In 1818, he presented the bungalow to Mr. Mead for his residence. Mr. Mead set up the Mission Seminary, which was the first educational institution in Travancore. The following was written by Mr. Mead to his church in England: "This will, we hope, in due course, evolve into a mission college for South India." The seminary was upgraded to a second-grade college and renamed "Nagercoil Christian College" in February 1893 with 13 students (7 Christians and 6 Non-Christians). Owing to a bequest by Septimus Scott, in 1889, a new two-storied building was erected (opposite the main gate). Subsequently, the college was named in his memory. The main block was built in 1940. The Scott Christian College shifted its location to a new campus on the Kottar-Parvathipuram Road in 1970. The college is a living legacy of the tireless, selfless, and dedicated services of the pioneering Christian missionaries.
